Elaine Tapp
Elaine Tapp is an accomplished executive leader with over 20 years of expertise in offshore financial services, honed in the vibrant landscapes of Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. She specializes in strategic planning and driving operational efficiency, and champions the philosophy that collaborative teamwork is the cornerstone of a thriving business.
As a Scottish Chartered Accountant, Elaine spent her early career years working in traditional finance teams until 2000 when she relocated to Bermuda, making a successful transition into the insurance sector. As an Account Executive, she managed a portfolio of rent-a-captive insurance clients, gaining invaluable industry experience. After five years in Bermuda, Elaine moved to the Cayman Islands in 2006 and joined Atlas Insurance Management.
During her early years at Atlas, she played a pivotal role in establishing the company as a respected and trusted captive manager. By implementing comprehensive systems, controls, and processes, and training and mentoring staff, she enhanced client servicing standards and operational compliance while fostering an engaged workforce. Following her appointment to Executive Vice President in 2016, she led the executive team through a transformative restructuring of the strategic planning and decision-making processes and executive operational systems, culminating in the successful sale of the company to a prominent national broker in 2020. Elaine currently works at Maples and Calder, a leading, international law firm, where she leads the finance team, collaborating with key decision makers to support the development and execution of the finance strategy.
Elaine holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with The Institute of Chartered Accounts of Scotland in 1997. Throughout her career, she has served on the board of multiple companies, many regulated, and held various officer positions.
Outside of work, Elaine enjoys the simple things that life in the Caribbean offers – beach time, boat trips and relaxing with friends, family and her menagerie of rescue animals – but her biggest passion is travel. She spent a year as a high school exchange student in Tallahassee, Florida, and after leaving Bermuda she embarked on a 1 year backpacking adventure through southern and eastern Africa, Hong Kong and Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, and South America including Easter Island and the Galapagos Islands. Her ambition is to visit at least two new places every year with her most recent travels taking her through Croatia and Slovenia.
